Here are some pictures that Bayou City Crossfit had on their website - that I borrowed. :) They are from the week 3 workout - an AWESOME performance by James!
Unfortunately, I've gotten a little bit behind in my crossfit competition updates. So here they all are at once!
Week 4 was a super tough workout - burpees, overhead squats, and muscle ups. I was so excited for this because James has rings and so he can actually do muscle ups pretty well. Here's a few pics of that workout. I think he did awesome! James wasn't too pleased with his performance. He actually didn't get a muscle up in before the time ran out - he was in the process of doing one when it ended. But he spent the 4 days before the workout in bed ALL day sick.
BURPEES - you basically get down flat on the ground like a pushup, then jump up and clap your hands above your head - thats 1 burpee |

Week 5 was power clean, toes to bar, and wall balls. He did really great this week and made up a little bit of ground that he lost the previous week in the rankings!
WALL BALLS - you throw the weighted ball up to the top x or higher (girls hit the bottom x or higher) |
TOES TO BAR |
Week 6 included thrusters and chest to bar pull ups. Again, James did amazing!

I'm so glad that they held the open sectionals for this year's crossfit games. It gave a lot of competitors a chance to enter the competition and just see where they stood compared to everyone else. It was a really fun experience to go watch James every weekend and the people that we've met the past 6 weeks are all incredibly nice and supportive. That says a lot about crossfit and what a tight nit "community" it creates. The people in that Bayou City gym had never seen us before, but every week they cheered James on and were friendly with Grayson and me - very cool.
I am SO proud to say that James finished the 6 week open sectionals in 213th place in our Region (which had 788 competitors at the start) and 3,088th place in the WORLD!! (which had a total of 11,225 competitors at the start). That is amazing to me considering that James hasn't even been doing this a year, AND he doesn't train anywhere. He just looks up the workouts online and does them on his own. I will say that some of his classmates have taken an interest in crossfit, and they have started doing the workouts with him up at the Baylor gym - I can tell a huge difference in how much FUN James has when other people work out with him. Of course he loves crossfit, but working out with friends adds so much to it!
The Regionals are June 17-19 in Tomball and we will definitely be going to cheer on the crossfitters that we met at Bayou City Crossfit that qualified (top 60 in the open sectionals). Hopefully, some of them will be able to qualify for the Final Crossfit Games being held in July in Pasadena, California. The owner of the Bayou City box (gym) went to the finals last year.
