Crossfit Fever

WEEK ONE

If you catch James when he's not studying, chances are he'll be watching something "crossfit" on his phone or computer.  He has Crossfit Fever - he's totally into it.  It's been really fun for me to watch him as his interest grows.  It started out in College Station, one day he went and did a free work out at a local "box" (that's crossfit terminology for "gym").  He liked it - and he was good at it.  Since then we've moved to Houston, and his interest in Crossfit has taken off!

In the beginning, he was in shape, but not crossfit shape.  He couldn't do a pull-up.  Now, some of his crazy workouts include 200 pull-ups! His physical strength has REALLY increased.  It's nice b/c they post a Workout Of the Day (WOD) on their website, so everyone knows what workout to do.

Every year Crossfit has what is called the Crossfit Games.  It's a world-wide competition to find the most fit person.  ANYONE can enter.  They have set work outs that they release every week for 6 weeks, and you either submit a video of you doing the workout, or you can go to a local box (gym) and have them validate your workout.  Sometimes the workouts are how many reps of something you can do in a set time, or sometimes it's how long it takes you to do a certain number of reps of something. After the huge field of contestants is narrowed in the first 6 weeks, they have the finals which are in Pasadena, California this year.  We watched last year's Crossfit games online, and I have to say - it's pretty cool!

SOOO this is week one - and today we went to the Bayou City Crossfit box for James to do the workout.  The people there were amazingly nice and supportive to James.  He did the workout with 7 other guys and 5 girls.  I caught a little video of James midway through his workout!

I'm excited to see how James fairs against the rest of the Crossfit world :) I'm SOO proud of him!!!
