Crossfit Fever

WEEK ONE

If you catch James when he's not studying, chances are he'll be watching something "crossfit" on his phone or computer.  He has Crossfit Fever - he's totally into it.  It's been really fun for me to watch him as his interest grows.  It started out in College Station, one day he went and did a free work out at a local "box" (that's crossfit terminology for "gym").  He liked it - and he was good at it.  Since then we've moved to Houston, and his interest in Crossfit has taken off!

In the beginning, he was in shape, but not crossfit shape.  He couldn't do a pull-up.  Now, some of his crazy workouts include 200 pull-ups! His physical strength has REALLY increased.  It's nice b/c they post a Workout Of the Day (WOD) on their website, so everyone knows what workout to do.

Every year Crossfit has what is called the Crossfit Games.  It's a world-wide competition to find the most fit person.  ANYONE can enter.  They have set work outs that they release every week for 6 weeks, and you either submit a video of you doing the workout, or you can go to a local box (gym) and have them validate your workout.  Sometimes the workouts are how many reps of something you can do in a set time, or sometimes it's how long it takes you to do a certain number of reps of something. After the huge field of contestants is narrowed in the first 6 weeks, they have the finals which are in Pasadena, California this year.  We watched last year's Crossfit games online, and I have to say - it's pretty cool!

SOOO this is week one - and today we went to the Bayou City Crossfit box for James to do the workout.  The people there were amazingly nice and supportive to James.  He did the workout with 7 other guys and 5 girls.  I caught a little video of James midway through his workout!

I'm excited to see how James fairs against the rest of the Crossfit world :) I'm SOO proud of him!!!

Hermann Park, TCU Gear, Friends

i'm so lucky i get to hang out with this sweet face all day, everyday!!!

Grayson received a St. patrick's package from my dad the other day.  It  had the absolute cutest 2 hats and a shirt - all tcu gear! and grayson looks really cute sporting it, who knows maybe he'll be a horned frog one day just like his grandpa!

Here's also a little view of the med center from hermann park.  grayson and i walk here everyday, then around the golf course, and to the zoo.  it was just such a beautiful day the other day! I will definitely need to look back at this picture and remember this day in a few months when i'm sweating my guts out!!

also posted are a few pics from the other morning.  we got up and drove 5 minutes to downtown to watch our friends josh, candace, and sean run in a 10k.  the weather was perfect!!! we stood and cheered with sean's family - leslee, knox, and summer :) we capped the morning off with a breakfast / brunch at the buffalo grille - one of my favorite places!  ah. . . . such a fun day saturday!

Animals, Flowers, and Sweet Potatoes

This past block break we hit up the Houston Zoo with our good friends the Woolard's.  Their 21 month old Brynlee was so adorable watching the animals.  One of her favorite attractions though was the birds, the regular black birds that are also in her front yard.  So cute!!!!! This zoo is amazing!  Here are some pics from the zoo trip:

MY personal favorite - the Giraffe's!!! It looks really strange to me to have a picture of a big 'ole elephant . . . with a skyscraper in the background!

Our front door has a pretty big pot for flowers next to it.  When my mom and sister were here in October, they made it look amazing with beautiful fall flowers.  However, it is now a nice pot of deadness.  It's depressing, and I'm embarrassed that all of our neighbors see it everyday.

SO, the other day - Grayson and I beautified it! We went to Houston Garden Centers - which Grayson LOVED.  I carried him in the Bjorn carrier and he was SO excited to grab all the colorful petals.  Unfortunately we left quite a path of petals while shopping.

My "Supervisor"
I have been trying like crazy to get Grayson to LIKE food other than formula. And the other day - he decided he liked it!  The whole process has been pretty messy.  I put some food in Grayson's mouth, he spits it out, Parker licks it off his face, Grayson dies laughing, repeat.  But then James tried it. . . . and the whole process was much more successful :)

Random Happenings

Lately Grayson has been getting heavier and heavier :) (at his 6 month checkup he weighed in at 17.9 lbs - which is in the 54th percentile, he was also 26" - the 55th percentile for height)  He is by no means fat, he's just a growing boy!

This has made me really anxious for the day he can sit in a grocery cart WITHOUT his car seat.  The whole car seat set up is super heavy and I'm not tall enough to see over it.  This leads to me poking my head out from either side constantly to see what i'm about to hit - and I always hit something or someone.  Those little wheelchair carts are particularly hard to see :)

SOOO. . . . the other day, we gave it a try - sitting in the shopping cart unassisted.  He started out fine, and even looked intrigued.  But then he just slowly toppled.  Don't worry, I had my hands around him to catch him as he landed on the cart.  He's not strong enough yet to pull himself back up. . . so it was back to the car seat.

But he's getting SO close!! It'll be any day now. . .  I can feel it!!
Looking interested . . . feeling good about this
Houston - we have a problem

Back to the car seat
We go to HEB almost everyday - it's Grayson's favorite place on Earth!
Here's just a few completely random pics from my phone:
Grayson LOVES bath time!! Yes I did some blurring - he's a little too young to have his man parts posted all over the internet :) His little orange fish sponge is his favorite thing, he gets SO excited for it.
EVERYTHING goes straight to his mouth.  Right now he's got 2 bottom teeth and he's working on a top tooth.
6 months old!!!!
