We went over to Bayou City Crossfit last Saturday to participate in the Fight Gone Bad 6 workout. It was totally awesome. It was a nationwide fundraising event, raising over $2.2 million dollars to benefit Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Crossfit Kids, and Camp Patriot. It was hard. I was sore for a few days after. But it was SO MUCH FUN!!! I can't wait to do another crossfit event or open Saturday workout.

Crossfit Games
WEEKS FOUR, FIVE, & SIX
Here are some pictures that Bayou City Crossfit had on their website - that I borrowed. :) They are from the week 3 workout - an AWESOME performance by James!

Unfortunately, I've gotten a little bit behind in my crossfit competition updates. So here they all are at once!
Week 4 was a super tough workout - burpees, overhead squats, and muscle ups. I was so excited for this because James has rings and so he can actually do muscle ups pretty well. Here's a few pics of that workout. I think he did awesome! James wasn't too pleased with his performance. He actually didn't get a muscle up in before the time ran out - he was in the process of doing one when it ended. But he spent the 4 days before the workout in bed ALL day sick.
| BURPEES - you basically get down flat on the ground like a pushup, then jump up and clap your hands above your head - thats 1 burpee |

Week 5 was power clean, toes to bar, and wall balls. He did really great this week and made up a little bit of ground that he lost the previous week in the rankings!

| WALL BALLS - you throw the weighted ball up to the top x or higher (girls hit the bottom x or higher) |

Week 6 included thrusters and chest to bar pull ups. Again, James did amazing!

I'm so glad that they held the open sectionals for this year's crossfit games. It gave a lot of competitors a chance to enter the competition and just see where they stood compared to everyone else. It was a really fun experience to go watch James every weekend and the people that we've met the past 6 weeks are all incredibly nice and supportive. That says a lot about crossfit and what a tight nit "community" it creates. The people in that Bayou City gym had never seen us before, but every week they cheered James on and were friendly with Grayson and me - very cool.
I am SO proud to say that James finished the 6 week open sectionals in 213th place in our Region (which had 788 competitors at the start) and 3,088th place in the WORLD!! (which had a total of 11,225 competitors at the start). That is amazing to me considering that James hasn't even been doing this a year, AND he doesn't train anywhere. He just looks up the workouts online and does them on his own. I will say that some of his classmates have taken an interest in crossfit, and they have started doing the workouts with him up at the Baylor gym - I can tell a huge difference in how much FUN James has when other people work out with him. Of course he loves crossfit, but working out with friends adds so much to it!
The Regionals are June 17-19 in Tomball and we will definitely be going to cheer on the crossfitters that we met at Bayou City Crossfit that qualified (top 60 in the open sectionals). Hopefully, some of them will be able to qualify for the Final Crossfit Games being held in July in Pasadena, California. The owner of the Bayou City box (gym) went to the finals last year.

Five Painful Minutes
WEEK THREE
Once again this past Saturday we drove over to Bayou City Crossfit and James did the Crossfit Games week three workout. This one was crazy crowded (5 heats of 5 people each) - it was probably the most fun week so far for Grayson and I to watch. We are getting to where we see the same people every week doing the competition workout - and it's nice to see familiar faces cheering each other on!
Here is a short video of the workout, and I do mean short. Grayson was super wiggly so I didn't really get to video much of it. But also, the entire workout was only 5 minutes long. It was a "do as many as you can of these in 5 minutes" . . . James had a great strategy - he paced himself. He did 3 of the movements per 30 seconds. He did AWESOME!!
After the week 3 workout, James has moved up to 129th place in our Region (thats out of 788)! The top 60 go to the Regionals competition June 17 - 19 in Tomball. Even if James is not competing in the Regionals, we will definitely be going to watch. Two of the guys that are at Bayou City every Saturday (the gym owner and one of the trainers) are doing really well too!

Crossfit Games
WEEK TWO
This past Saturday we took a short drive up to Bayou City so James could enter his weekly workout in the competition. We were able to meet several more Crossfitters who were, as always, super supportive of everyone doing the workout. This week there were three heats worth of people doing the workout, and James went in heat one. I'm extremely proud to say that James had one of the BEST results! I think the only person that beat him was the crossfit trainer who did the workout (and he really doesn't count b/c he's a trainer?!)
The workout was to do 9 deadlifts, 12 pushups, and 15 box jumps - as many rounds of this as you can do in (AMRAP) in 15 minutes. I took some video from the earlier minutes of his workout (the last few minutes consisted of extreme pain, lots of grunting, and a lake of sweat on the mat below him.)
In this second video I got a quick shot of the box (the gym) and the other crossfitters working out in heat 1.
After two weeks of workouts, James in 153rd place in our region (out of 788 competitors in this region) and he's in 2,318 place out of 11,225 total competitors in the world!!
I am SO SO proud of him! Some of these people have been doing crossfit for years - James doesn't even have a full year under his belt!

Crossfit Fever
WEEK ONE
If you catch James when he's not studying, chances are he'll be watching something "crossfit" on his phone or computer. He has Crossfit Fever - he's totally into it. It's been really fun for me to watch him as his interest grows. It started out in College Station, one day he went and did a free work out at a local "box" (that's crossfit terminology for "gym"). He liked it - and he was good at it. Since then we've moved to Houston, and his interest in Crossfit has taken off!
In the beginning, he was in shape, but not crossfit shape. He couldn't do a pull-up. Now, some of his crazy workouts include 200 pull-ups! His physical strength has REALLY increased. It's nice b/c they post a Workout Of the Day (WOD) on their website, so everyone knows what workout to do.

Every year Crossfit has what is called the Crossfit Games. It's a world-wide competition to find the most fit person. ANYONE can enter. They have set work outs that they release every week for 6 weeks, and you either submit a video of you doing the workout, or you can go to a local box (gym) and have them validate your workout. Sometimes the workouts are how many reps of something you can do in a set time, or sometimes it's how long it takes you to do a certain number of reps of something. After the huge field of contestants is narrowed in the first 6 weeks, they have the finals which are in Pasadena, California this year. We watched last year's Crossfit games online, and I have to say - it's pretty cool!
SOOO this is week one - and today we went to the Bayou City Crossfit box for James to do the workout. The people there were amazingly nice and supportive to James. He did the workout with 7 other guys and 5 girls. I caught a little video of James midway through his workout!
I'm excited to see how James fairs against the rest of the Crossfit world :) I'm SOO proud of him!!!

The Simple Joys
There are a lot of little everyday things that really make me happy. Here's a list of simple things that always put a smile on my face.
CLEAN SHEETS
There is nothing better than getting into a bed with nice crisp, clean smelling sheets. AH!
GETTING IN A GOOD WORKOUT OR RUN
Even when you're totally out of shape, the feeling of accomplishment after a good run or workout is so satisfying. I feel like I've detoxed my body a little bit.
PAGEVIEW COUNTERS
I have to say - I get GREAT joy from checking the pageview counter at the bottom of my blog. :) There is a little flood of happiness I get when I check it and realize that someone has visited my blog!
ELECTRIC BLANKETS
Along with getting into a bed with crisp, clean sheets - It's nice to feel that warmth of an electric blanket. (but only when the rest of the house is super cold)

GETTING ACTUAL MAIL
Actual Mail addressed to me. I get excited when I see our mailbox full, but my excitement quickly fades when I weed through the newspaper coupons, the 17 pieces of mail addressed to all the previous tenants of our apartment, the credit card offers, and the Geico flyers - and I realize that there isn't actually any REAL mail. But when there IS real mail - it's a real day lifter!

New Year, New Plan!!
I'm fairly certain that these:
plus these . . .
SOO, starting today, no more desserts for me for ONE month. I'm hoping to see some good results, especially since I will continue to work out regularly and eat a descent diet. The sweets have been my weakness. In all fairness, I think it's in my blood. My 92 year old Grandmother who is legally deaf AND blind can be laying in her bed at the nursing home, not responding to a single thing you say or ask her. . . but if you ask her if she wants cookies or a chocolate covered cherry, she will say to you, "oh yee-ees!!" (she can hear if you get down into her right ear and speak loudly and deeply).
I have 2 motivations to do my best:
- I've promised myself that if I see absolutely no results after one good, solid, dedicated month. . . then I'm going to try the twinkie diet! After all, my birthday is in February, and you just can't have a birthday without sweets?! That's crazy talk.
- This Victoria's Secret girl is plastered onto my refrigerator.
