Crossfit Fever

WEEK ONE

If you catch James when he's not studying, chances are he'll be watching something "crossfit" on his phone or computer.  He has Crossfit Fever - he's totally into it.  It's been really fun for me to watch him as his interest grows.  It started out in College Station, one day he went and did a free work out at a local "box" (that's crossfit terminology for "gym").  He liked it - and he was good at it.  Since then we've moved to Houston, and his interest in Crossfit has taken off!

In the beginning, he was in shape, but not crossfit shape.  He couldn't do a pull-up.  Now, some of his crazy workouts include 200 pull-ups! His physical strength has REALLY increased.  It's nice b/c they post a Workout Of the Day (WOD) on their website, so everyone knows what workout to do.

Every year Crossfit has what is called the Crossfit Games.  It's a world-wide competition to find the most fit person.  ANYONE can enter.  They have set work outs that they release every week for 6 weeks, and you either submit a video of you doing the workout, or you can go to a local box (gym) and have them validate your workout.  Sometimes the workouts are how many reps of something you can do in a set time, or sometimes it's how long it takes you to do a certain number of reps of something. After the huge field of contestants is narrowed in the first 6 weeks, they have the finals which are in Pasadena, California this year.  We watched last year's Crossfit games online, and I have to say - it's pretty cool!

SOOO this is week one - and today we went to the Bayou City Crossfit box for James to do the workout.  The people there were amazingly nice and supportive to James.  He did the workout with 7 other guys and 5 girls.  I caught a little video of James midway through his workout!

I'm excited to see how James fairs against the rest of the Crossfit world :) I'm SOO proud of him!!!

Hermann Park, TCU Gear, Friends

i'm so lucky i get to hang out with this sweet face all day, everyday!!!

Grayson received a St. patrick's package from my dad the other day.  It  had the absolute cutest 2 hats and a shirt - all tcu gear! and grayson looks really cute sporting it, who knows maybe he'll be a horned frog one day just like his grandpa!

Here's also a little view of the med center from hermann park.  grayson and i walk here everyday, then around the golf course, and to the zoo.  it was just such a beautiful day the other day! I will definitely need to look back at this picture and remember this day in a few months when i'm sweating my guts out!!

also posted are a few pics from the other morning.  we got up and drove 5 minutes to downtown to watch our friends josh, candace, and sean run in a 10k.  the weather was perfect!!! we stood and cheered with sean's family - leslee, knox, and summer :) we capped the morning off with a breakfast / brunch at the buffalo grille - one of my favorite places!  ah. . . . such a fun day saturday!

Animals, Flowers, and Sweet Potatoes

This past block break we hit up the Houston Zoo with our good friends the Woolard's.  Their 21 month old Brynlee was so adorable watching the animals.  One of her favorite attractions though was the birds, the regular black birds that are also in her front yard.  So cute!!!!! This zoo is amazing!  Here are some pics from the zoo trip:

MY personal favorite - the Giraffe's!!! It looks really strange to me to have a picture of a big 'ole elephant . . . with a skyscraper in the background!

Our front door has a pretty big pot for flowers next to it.  When my mom and sister were here in October, they made it look amazing with beautiful fall flowers.  However, it is now a nice pot of deadness.  It's depressing, and I'm embarrassed that all of our neighbors see it everyday.

SO, the other day - Grayson and I beautified it! We went to Houston Garden Centers - which Grayson LOVED.  I carried him in the Bjorn carrier and he was SO excited to grab all the colorful petals.  Unfortunately we left quite a path of petals while shopping.

My "Supervisor"
I have been trying like crazy to get Grayson to LIKE food other than formula. And the other day - he decided he liked it!  The whole process has been pretty messy.  I put some food in Grayson's mouth, he spits it out, Parker licks it off his face, Grayson dies laughing, repeat.  But then James tried it. . . . and the whole process was much more successful :)

Random Happenings

Lately Grayson has been getting heavier and heavier :) (at his 6 month checkup he weighed in at 17.9 lbs - which is in the 54th percentile, he was also 26" - the 55th percentile for height)  He is by no means fat, he's just a growing boy!

This has made me really anxious for the day he can sit in a grocery cart WITHOUT his car seat.  The whole car seat set up is super heavy and I'm not tall enough to see over it.  This leads to me poking my head out from either side constantly to see what i'm about to hit - and I always hit something or someone.  Those little wheelchair carts are particularly hard to see :)

SOOO. . . . the other day, we gave it a try - sitting in the shopping cart unassisted.  He started out fine, and even looked intrigued.  But then he just slowly toppled.  Don't worry, I had my hands around him to catch him as he landed on the cart.  He's not strong enough yet to pull himself back up. . . so it was back to the car seat.

But he's getting SO close!! It'll be any day now. . .  I can feel it!!
Looking interested . . . feeling good about this
Houston - we have a problem

Back to the car seat
We go to HEB almost everyday - it's Grayson's favorite place on Earth!
Here's just a few completely random pics from my phone:
Grayson LOVES bath time!! Yes I did some blurring - he's a little too young to have his man parts posted all over the internet :) His little orange fish sponge is his favorite thing, he gets SO excited for it.
EVERYTHING goes straight to his mouth.  Right now he's got 2 bottom teeth and he's working on a top tooth.

Shop Until You Drop. . .

Grayson and I recently made another trip to Amarillo to visit family.  I was so excited that they received about 8.5" of snow right before we got there! The flight up to Amarillo wasn't bad because we flew at 7:30 am - Grayson's Prime Time.  He is always in such a good mood in the mornings. He flirted with the flight attendants and other passengers - he is becoming an avid flyer!

My parents and Callie and Andrew gave me a late birthday present of a shopping spree for clothes! That was a HUGE surprise, and soo much fun!  Callie and Andrew and their doggies made the long trek to Amarillo from Duncan, OK to come see us too - which was exciting! They had just driven to Dallas and back the night before. I don't know how those two drive as much as they do! :) I couldn't do it, but I'm SO glad they do.
Listening to the Pilot Welcome us to Amarillo!!

We're here!!!!
Seeing Granny again!!!!
Telling Grandpa all about what he's been up to

Mommy and Auntie Callie :)
Grayson has become quite the little grabber.  Particularly with food and drinks.  He is just SO curious.  While eating at a local bakery, Grayson kept grabbing for Callie's lemons. . . so she let him have a TEENY TINY taste.
Aunt Callie and Uncle Andrew introducing Grayson to LEMONS!
Result:  EWWW!
After eating all together, my dad and Andrew split off to go look at guy things at guy stores, and my mom, my sister, Grayson, and I started OUR shopping at Old Navy.  But we found so many goodies that we never had to go to any other stores! Although, we were well equipped with coupons to many stores that Andrew had sweetly printed off for us to use.  He is the Coupon King! I don't even know how he finds them all!!
This is one of the mounds of snow in the parking lot at the mall. . .it technically was Grayson's first  experience with snow.
This was Grayson at the beginning of our shopping spree - happy, going with flow - browsing the merchandise. . . .

And this was Grayson several hours later after a melt down and a bottle in the dressing room . . . .

Poor little guy was literally forced to shop until he dropped!

But he's a tough one - he survived the experience just fine!  Here he is the very next day at the mall!
This is back in Houston, he is sporting his NEW hat courtesy of Aunt Callie (purchased during the great shopping spree in Amarillo)
I always love getting to see my parents and Callie and Andrew.  I also always love the cold weather, we were lucky enough to get snow during our visit as well. But it is hard to be away from James, we always miss him tons.  This trip we returned on Valentine's day and G and I were greeted at the airport with beautiful flowers!! I would show a picture, but in my last import of pics from my IPhone to my computer, 98 photos were accidentally deleted in the process. GRR!!! There are no photos of the return flight because we unfortunately flew in the late afternoon, which is NOT Grayson's prime time.  He screamed and wailed the ENTIRE flight.  But that just made the flowers James brought even better because I was on my last leg! G and I had such a great time, we can't wait for the next visit with the family!!!

New Discoveries

I can't believe my little man is 5 months old!!!!!!

It seems like this last week has been full of new discoveries for Little Grayson.  He has started to really examine his pacifier.  I have caught him holding it and just checking it out - several times.  He has also learned how to Rip off his bib.  I'm not at all happy with this newly developed talent.  Especially because he is teething and CONSTANTLY drooling.  He has also discovered sunglasses, and I think he likes them! I wanted to protect his little eyes from the wind and the sun - we take a walk pretty much every day.

Checking out the Pacifier
Ripping off his bib

He has also learned to recognize THIS! when he's hungry and upset you can hold it up and show him that you're working on it and he gets quiet . . . he gives you a whole 30 seconds to get it made.

The new shades!!

We took a walk on Sunday to Hermann Park, around it, and then home.  It's so nice that we live close enough to be able to do this.  The weather was BEAUTIFUL! Grayson and I were really happy to have James join us on this walk - Sunday was a No Study Day for James due to it being my birthday :)

Looking at the clouds and the birds . . .

Watching daddy get in a quick work out

James was also able to join us on our walk yesterday! We walked up to the Baylor Gym and saw where James and his buds work out every day, then we walked back.  It was Super windy and pretty cold, but Grayson still loved it!
Right before we left
This little man LOVES walks!!
Just got across the street and we're already freezing!!
. . . . and about to blow away!
